Local Living
Fort Hood Area
Everything’s bigger in Texas, so naturally, Fort Hood is home to the largest active-duty, an armored military post in the U.S. and sits on 214,968 acres between Bell and Coryell Counties. Located in Central Texas and surrounded by the cities of Killeen, Harker Heights, Nolanville, Copperas Cove, Kempner, Belton, Temple, etc. Being a predominantly military community, many transient families reside here. Snowfall is rare and the sun shines over the area on average of 230 days each year.
Recreation
Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area provides fun in the sun. BLORA provides boating, sailing, swimming, scuba diving, fishing, and more. Local family attractions include the Fourth Infantry Division Museum, the annual Central Texas State Fair, the year-round rodeo, golf clubs, and the Mayborn Science Theater, and of course, one of the largest fireworks displays in the country celebrates our Independence on the 4th of July! Vive Les Arts hosts a variety of shows, musicals, and children’s theatre productions throughout the year. Take 190 West is Killeen’s week-long salute to the arts and is one of Texas’ premier art festivals. Oh, and Elvis lived here while stationed at Fort Hood.
